A significant portion of the population is nearsighted. Many of those people may struggle to read text on screens during services.

Nearsighted vision is a common issue that can make it difficult for some people to read text on screens, especially from a distance.

This guide will help you understand how Sermon Slides can be used to accommodate those with nearsighted vision in your congregation.

Why is this Important?

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires public event facilities to provide accessible features for patrons with vision issues.

Under Title II (government-run venues) and Title III (privately owned public accommodations), event facilities must ensure equal opportunity and "effective communication" for those with vision loss. Auxiliary Aids: Venues must provide effective communication through alternate formats like large-print materials, Braille, or electronic formats (like Sermon Slides), unless doing so poses an undue burden.

How to help those with Nearsighted Vision

Here are some tips for using Sermon Slides to accommodate those with nearsighted vision:

• Use larger text: When creating your slides, use larger font sizes to make it easier for those with nearsighted vision to read the text on their phones.
• Use high contrast: Use high contrast colors for text and backgrounds to improve readability. For example, use black text on a white background or white text on a dark background.
• Keep it simple: Avoid cluttering your slides with too much information. Keep the slides simple

What to tell your congregation:

• Inform them about the option: Let your congregation know that they can receive the slides on their phones. This can be done through announcements, signage, or during the service.
• Encourage zooming in: The slides can be zoomed in on the phone to read better.
• Provide assistance: If possible, have volunteers available to help those who may need assistance setting up or using Sermon Slides on their phones.
